Game Review: Predators 2 Kings 1

David Legwand had 2 assists & Pekka Rinne made 30 saves to close out the 4 game home stand dubbed “hell week” by many with a 3-0-1 record. Pekka Rinne was sensational again for The Predators getting some help from a post & a great backup/save by Jack Hillen on his way to league leading 35th win. Patric Hornqvist scored his team leading 18th goal of the season & appears to be over his Upper Body Injury.

Mike Fisher has officially entered Beast Mode since returning from the Legwand Flu, he was flying all over the ice last night & led the team with 4 hits & was 53% in the faceoff dot. This game was very important & the Predators came out flying off the start for the 2nd game in a row. Roman Josi gets a sweet tip by Defenseman Drew Doughty for the 1-0 lead late in 1st period. Hornqvist catches a nice bounce off the end wall by Legwand & fires it home for 2-0 lead in 2nd period, then Predators skate it out for the 2-1 victory.

The only goal Rinne let in was a pinball puck that hit a player or two before going in off the skate of Ryan Suter. Very close game & LA will be a tough team down the stretch (2 more match ups this season). The Predators will skate tonight in Carolina at 6CT & may go with backup G Anders Lindback as is the usual with back to back games.

The bottom line:
-The Nashville Predators are 37-19-7 (81 Pts) and sit 3rd in The Central Division, 4 Pts behind St Louis & Detroit.

-In the Western Conference The Predators are in 5th, 4 Pts behind Detroit with the chase pack falling back a little more: 6 Chicago (73), 7 San Jose(71), 8 Dallas(70) & 9 Col(70).

-Tonight will be the 2nd & final matchup of the season against the Carolina Hurricanes with the Predators winning 5-2 at Bridgestone Arena on 1/7/12

-The Predators are 4-0-1 since acquiring D Hal Gill last week.

-The Predators gained a total of 7 out of 8 possible points on the home stand that wrapped up one of the toughest stretches of the season.

-Undersized toughness: credit to D Francis Bouillon & D Jack Hillen, who were credited with 2 Hits each against LA, but were a constant physical presence the entire game.

-Martin Erat is on pace for a career year with 46 points, 11 shy of his back to back 57 pt seasons from 2006-08

-G Pekka Rinne leads the NHL in wins with 35

Leg-watch 500- With 2 Assists Vs LA on Monday, David Legwand now has 487 points in his career (183G 304 A) & only has 416 PiM’s in 827 Games with the Nashville Predators.

Keep up that momentum on the road,
