Game Review: Preds lose to Hurricanes 4-3, in an effort worth forgetting…
The Predators gave up 3 goals & were outshot 13-6 in the 2nd period & overall looked very sluggish. This performance was almost to be expected after a difficult travel had the team arrive on game day after playing the night before. After the LA game on Monday, it was clear Coach Trotz was unhappy with the effort in the 3rd & wanted the team to come out strong in front of backup G Anders Lindback. This happened as Craig Smith did a great job of cleaning up a loose puck on the side of the crease for his 12th Goal on the season & a 1-0 lead.
Then the tired legs/mental mistakes started to show & a parade to the penalty box began. A total of 6 penalties were taken by the Preds (2 in offensive zone/1 bench minor) while they were only able to earn one power play. As the lone Preds power play expired, Car F Eric Staal pushed a loose puck up the middle springing Bryan Allen for a breakaway goal. The Preds did cut the lead to 4-3 in the 3rd & made a push with 16 shots on Car G Cam Ward, but were unable to convert.
Overall not a great night, but there were some positive moments including the energetic play by Gabriel Bourque & the individual effort by Colin Wilson when he stole the puck, fired a shot, & followed his own rebound to finish his 15th goal on the season.
New acquisition Paul Gaustad met the team, but did not play due to an upper body injury. Andrei Kostitsyn did make his Preds debut playing just over 12 minutes with 2 shot attempts & a bad penalty in the offensive zone that led to a Carolina goal. He did almost set up the game tying goal late in the 3rd with a pass off the wall across the top of the crease, but clearly will need a few practices to adjust to the system. This team is now off until Saturday & will have the ability to better work in the new acquisitions after a couple of practices.
