Mosh’s Monday Musings
After a rather disappointing start to the season on the road in Boston and Pittsburgh, the Preds returned to the familiar surroundings of Bridgestone and found their groove. All in all, a solid week by the club finishing 2-0-1 with three more games coming up this week.
The home opener vs Philly has to rank as one of the wildest games in recent memory. It seemed like the team wanted the fans to feel every emotion from last season’s playoff run in just one game. But a win is a win.
Two periods of solid hockey and stellar goaltending by Rinne was enough to defeat Dallas on Thursday night. But the real winners are the fans who now have a gif of Forsberg chanting ‘AR-VY! AR-VY! AR-VY!’.
Despite the atrocious result on Saturday up in Chicago, the game went much better than I had anticipated. The Blackhawks had six months to get some semblance of revenge against the Preds for their embarrassing exit from the postseason, and needed horrendous officiating to get a W. The reason you have the two ref system is to not miss anything away from the puck. But the NHL really needs to stop making refs call every love tap for slashing and actually get things right. NEITHER official saw Irwin’s stick get chicken-winged, then ultimately yanked out of his hands and launched against the high glass because it was away from the play? OK… fine. I guess neither of them also saw Kane rear-naked choke Forsberg to the ice in OT about 15 seconds before Chicago scored? What was the excuse on that play? Anyways…
This week :
Tuesday the Preds return to Nashville to play their former teammate Colin Wilson, soon-to-be(?) teammate Matt Duchene, and the rest of the Avalanche. On Thursday, they go back on the road to face-off against Philly, which should be interesting. Saturday they’ll be in Madison Square Garden to play the Rangers at 11:30am central rest, which means you have the rest of the day to worry about college football.
