Mosh’s Monday Musings

I felt the collective exhale of every Preds fan all the way out here in Charlotte. After a perfect 3-0 week, Nashville is finally looking like the team we expected to see a month ago.

It all started Tuesday with a 3-1 victory over Ottawa.
  • Not the most impressive triumph, but there are no style points in hockey.

  • Speaking of style points, go back and watch the James Neal goal again if you want to smile on a Monday.

  • Pekka Rinne was nothing short of phenomenal. His early save on Bobby Ryan set the tone for the rest of the night. On a personal note, I tried to mimic how his body twisted like that… it didn’t end well.

  • Undoubtedly, this was Subban’s best game in a Nashville jersey, potting the game-winner along with his razzle dazzle to assist on Neal’s goal.

Thursday night brought the Blues to town, fresh off their OT loss to Chicago the night before. The storyline of this game was Carter Hutton facing the Preds. However, a lackluster effort became the story for almost two periods, as a rare chorus of boos came down from the Bridgestone faithful.

  • Nashville blew 1:17 worth of a 5 on 3 in the second period. Typically, that’s a death sentence for winning.

  • Calle Jarnkrok… sniper. His goal off the post just before the second intermission gave all the momentum to Nashville.

  • James Neal scored again and is on one of those streaks where you just expect him to score every time he steps on the ice.

  • Carter Hutton played well, but you can tell the team in front of him got worn down as the game continued.

Remember when the Ducks laid a 6-1 beat down on the Preds a couple weeks ago? So do the boys in gold. Pekka Rinne earned his first shutout of the season in a 5-0 thrashing of Anaheim Saturday. The Preds broke through with just seconds left in the 1st to open the floodgates.

  • We all love Johansen’s hugs and Arvidsson’s fist pumps, but Ryan Ellis may have the celebration of the season after his tally.

  • Speaking of Arvidsson, is there a more exciting guy than him when he’s on the ice for his shifts? Remember when you ALWAYS knew when Tootoo was out there? That’s Arvidsson… only with more offensive talent and less craziness.

  • Prince Filip finally decided to join the party. Which sounds strange considering he leads the team in points. Enemies of the Prince beware… he likes scoring goals in bunches.

  • Rinne has now given up a total of 7 goals in the last six games… Nashville is 3-0-3 in that span, scoring 18 goals in the process.

After a  3-0-1 home stand, the boys go back on the road to play Toronto on Tuesday, followed by rematches with Ottawa and St Louis to follow on Thursday and Saturday.
