Preds beat Wings as Trotz reaches milestone…

The Nashville Predators defeated the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 at Joe Louis Arena to move into 4th in the Western Conference on the night Head Coach Barry Trotz achieves a major milestone. Trotz recorded his 500th victory as Preds bench boss placing him in company with only 4 other coaches in the history of the NHL.

The Preds came out strong in this contest & really played well in the 1st period out chancing the Wings & winning seemingly every battle. No scoring in the 1st period, but some solid play. G Pekka Rinne was the story for much of the 2nd period as the Preds took 3 minor penalties putting the dangerous Wings PP on the ice at one point for almost 4 consecutive mins.

Rinne & the PK were up to the task including a highlight reel save on Henrik Zetterberg with the glove while sprawled on the ice. Preds break through at 13:05 when Jordin Tootoo makes a poised play to keep a puck in at the blue line & fire a pass to Gabriel Bourque, who spun & fired home a wrist shot making the score 1-0. With only 33 seconds left in the period there was a major scrum for a loose puck in front of the Detroit net & it was cleaned up by scoring machine Francis Bouillon to make the score 2-0 at the end of two periods.

At 2:40 of the 3rd period Andrei Kostitsyn made a great pass from the corner to a wide open & crashing Alex Radulov who finished with ease for his 2nd Goal since returning from the KHL. Shea Weber added an empty netter & the Preds jumped on a plane to ready for the Chicago Blackhawks on Sat night in Smashville.
