Preds Quick Hits From The Crease 3-11-16
It was an unusually quiet day in the Western Conference as most of the teams battling for position had the night off. Two clubs had the opportunity to gain ground against inferior opponents and ended up taking demoralizing losses.
Minnesota took a 2-1 defeat at home to lowly Edmonton. That result keeps the Wild two points back of the Avalanche for the final playoff spot. Although Minnesota still has a game in hand, they have ground to make up in the ROW (regulation/OT wins) tie-breaker. Colorado currently has 32 while Minnesota sits at 30. I still feel the Wild will make the playoffs given the difficulty of the Avs schedule down the stretch.
The Sharks, battling for the Pacific Division crown, continued their poor play at home by getting shutout by the Devils 3-0. The “Shark Tank” used to be one of the most intimidating arenas for opposing teams but that’s not the case this year. They fell to just 12-15-3 at the SAP Center but are locked into a playoff spot by leading the NHL in road wins with 25.
What to Watch For: 4 of the 5 best teams in the west face off against each other tonight as the Blues host Anaheim and Chicago travels to Dallas. The Ducks appear to have finally come back to Earth after their 11-game winning streak by losing their last two, scoring just one goal in the process.
