Preds Quick Hits From The Crease 3-17-16
Last night went about as well as could be expected for the idle Predators. The Flyers, on the second of back-to-backs, went into Chicago and defeated the Blackhawks 3-2 in regulation. The Blues were playing catchup all night against the Oilers and fell 6-4. Even though the Avs beat Vancouver, Colorado will not be a factor when it comes to catching Nashville.
Philly is red hot right now going 8-1-1 in their last 10, but victories over Detroit and Chicago in 24 hours is the most impressive feat. With last night’s victory, they moved ahead of Detroit for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. They also did the Preds a solid favor by keeping Chicago just five points in front of Nashville for third place in the Central.
The Blues remained 8 points ahead of the Preds after their loss at Rexall Place. Edmonton had answers for every comeback St Louis mustered and coach Ken Hitchcock should be concerned after his club has surrendered 17 goals in their last 3 games. They’ve also allowed at least two goals in 12 straight, hardly befitting of a Hitchcock team. Although they have seen more successes than failures over that stretch, scoring in the playoffs decreases and goaltending controversies have plagued him before.
What to Watch For: After Colorado leapfrogged past them last night, Minnesota has the chance to climb back into the last playoff spot when they visit the Devils. The Stars host Tampa Bay and try to get a firmer grasp on the Central Division lead.
