Preds Quick Hits From The Crease 3-18-16

By @GreekGoalie35

The Preds returned home for their first home game in two weeks and dispatched the Islanders 4-2. Ryan Johansen scored the game-winner and added an assist to lead the way as Nashville now trails Chicago by just 3 points for third place in the Central.

Ryan Ellis notched a PP goal as the Preds finally broke through with the man advantage after getting donuts in that department for the entirety of the road trip. James Neal continued scoring his goals in bunches by tallying the opening goal, while Austin Watson sealed it with an empty net frosty goal for the home crowd.

While Nashville enjoyed hosting one Tri-state area team, the Wild were busy getting trounced by another. Minnesota got blasted by the Devils at the Prudential Center 7-4. They continue their losing ways against bad teams and blowing chances to gain ground in the playoff race. If they somehow miss out on the post-season, there will be much laughter and rejoicing in Music City.

In Dallas, the Stars came from behind in the third period to defeat Tampa Bay 4-3, moving into sole possession of first place in the division. If Dallas winds up taking the Central, I think they’ll be the third straight division winner to bow out in the first round because they simply can’t stop teams from scoring.

What to Watch For: Nashville goes back on the road to face former coach Barry Trotz and the Washington Capitals at 6pm. It’s expected that Carter Hutton will get the start while his alma mater UMass Lowell battle Providence in the Hockey East semifinal at the same time. Chicago tries to end their season-high four-game losing streak when they visit Winnipeg. Scott Darling will get the nod as starting goaltender Corey Crawford did not make the trip due to a minor injury.
