Preds Quick Hits From The Crease 3-21-16
The Preds had a rough go of things in DC on Friday, but I would’ve been happy if they escaped with a point given the circumstances. They faced a rested Capitals team, which became more obvious as the game progressed, and Washington ran away with a 4-1 win.
The other news from the weekend was the recalling of veteran forwards Eric Nystrom and Gabriel Bourque. Word has it that Nystrom is ready to get back in the lineup after suffering a foot injury courtesy of a Shea Weber slap shot. The question now is who Laviolette will choose to take out, if anybody.
Tonight, Drew Doughty, Jonathan Quick and the rest of the Kings visit Music City. LA comes in red hot, going 11-2-1 in their last 14, a stretch that began at Bridgestone on February 20th with a 2-1 victory. The Kings sit two points back of Dallas for the top spot in the Western Conference with two games in hand. Lots of playoff positions can still change in the next three weeks so it’s too early to foresee actual match-ups, though Nashville is a virtual lock for the top wild card spot.
What to Watch For: There’s still ten games left, with seven at home. The Preds have cooled down, following a 9-0-3 run by going 2-2-1 in their last 5. Unless Minnesota or Colorado make an epic run, expect Carter Hutton to get at least two more starts to give Rinne some rest heading into the postseason.
