Preds Quick Hits From The Crease 3-24-16
I hope you got a chance to breathe yesterday because you won’t have many chances left until the end of the NHL season. Tonight, the Preds return to the ice to face Vancouver.
It was 12 days ago when Vancouver of all teams broke the historic points streak of Nashville by beating the Preds 4-2. Since then, the Canucks haven’t scored four goals TOTAL. They’ve lost five straight, while scoring just three goals, including being shutout in the last three games. Perhaps even more embarrassing is that this happened while playing against just one playoff team during that span. Winning has been a foreign concept for them all season. In fact, they’ve gone the entire year with a winning streak of no more than TWO games.
Nashville is coming off an impressive victory on Monday over the Kings. Normally I’d say this is a typical letdown game, but with two days off, it’s far enough in the rear view mirror that they won’t rest on their laurels. The loss to a bad Vancouver team is something coach Laviolette is sure to point out to the club during pregame. Although it’s expected that Pekka Rinne gets the start, this is one of those games that would be a perfect opportunity to give him a night off as we head down the stretch.
What to Watch For: The two clubs trying to get the last playoff spot are both in action as Minnesota, hosts the Calgary Flames while Colorado takes on Philadelphia at the Pepsi Center. Elsewhere, the Stars battle the Coyotes in Arizona as they continue their push for home ice through the Western Conference playoffs.
