Congratulations to Pekka Rinne, Filip Forsberg, Shea Weber and Roman Josi on being named to their respective World Cup of Hockey teams. The 8-team tournament kicks off in September before the 2016-17 NHL regular season begins.

The Preds play their next 6 games vs non-playoff teams. This is typically a spot for a let-down when you consider they just defeated the three best teams in the conference. However, the Devils come in losers of 3 in a row, having been outscored 13-2 in those games. They’re the lowest scoring team in the NHL and just traded away their leader in that department, Lee Stempniak. New Jersey also announced that Keith Kincaid will be the goaltender vs Nashville tonight instead of Cory Schneider, who was just named to the US World Cup of Hockey team.

I’m calling it now… Colorado is out and the top 8 is set in the West. Why?… Besides the fact they have one less game remaining than Nashville and Minnesota, the Avs have the toughest schedule by far. Minnesota plays only 6 playoff teams the rest of the way, while Colorado FINISHES the season with 8 straight vs playoff teams.
