Preds Quick Hits From The Crease 4-5-16
The Preds are back on the ice tonight to face the Avalanche at Bridgestone Arena. Last time they battled, Nashville had an opportunity to clinch a playoff spot. This time, they have a chance to officially knock Colorado out of the postseason chase altogether.
The Avs have had success against the boys in gold this season, winning three of the first four meetings, including both games in Nashville.
The argument here is that the Preds have nothing to play for over the last few games prior to the Stanley Cup playoffs. Tell that to coach Laviolette who ran a vigorous practice yesterday which included doing push-ups for miscues. They’ve lost four in a row and Pekka Rinne’s play has dropped off of late. He’s been yanked in two of his last three starts, surrendering 10 goals on just 62 shots for a save percentage of a mere .838. I expect Rinne to start tonight and Thursday vs Arizona to try and gain some confidence back, with Hutton finishing up the season vs Dallas.
News Out West: The Kings dropped a 3-2 decision in Vancouver to remain one point back of cross-town rival Anaheim for the Pacific Division lead, with the Ducks owning a game in hand over LA. The Blues came back from a two-goal deficit to thrash the Coyotes 5-2 and keep pace with Dallas. Both teams sit at 105 points with two games left to determine who will have home ice throughout the Western Conference playoffs.
What to Watch For: Minnesota hosts the Sharks and can clinch a playoff spot on their own with a victory. LA travels to Calgary in a back-to-back scenario for them while Anaheim takes on Winnipeg at the Honda Center.
