Still No #35 Preds Steal Win Anyway
By Josh @Top6Grinder
The Nashville Predators faced off against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the only regular season matchup in Nashville.
Preds started strong in the first period with two goals from d-men. It looked like the Preds were going to dominate going into the middle of the second period until the leafs converted on a blown coverage to make it 2-1. The Preds rode out the storm from the Leafs and went into the locker room leading 2-1 after two periods.
Going into the third the Preds looked to take the game over and get another win at home. The Leafs had other ideas and came out blazing while taking full advantage of sloppy play by the home team. Stunning the Preds and crowd, the Leafs quickly took a 3-2 lead. After a timeout the Preds settled down and chipped away at a not so solid Leafs d corps. Mike Fisher changed the momentum with a goal. That momentum carried the Preds through the rest if the 3rd period. Colin Wilson notched the game winning goal and Carter Hutton made a highlight reel save on a floater that was trickling past him to ice the game and a Preds victory.
-Preds win franchise high 9th game in a row at home.
-Preds are 11-5-1against the Eastern Conference.
Hutton on his highlight save- “Just a pop out one-timer there,” Hutton said. “It’s one of those ones it hits his body and you are kind of like, `Oh no.’ I was able to just kind of spin and had my eye on it and I was able to catch it with my stick.”
Horacheck on his goalie changes- “I felt with that type of care and character of him wanting to get back in the game was important and him being one of our leaders I thought it was important to let him back in today’s game,” Toronto interim head coach Peter Horachek said.
Weber on winning nine in a row at home- “We just take a lot of pride,” Predators defenseman Shea Weber said. “I think a lot of teams in this league take a lot of pride in playing at home, and we especially do. We want to make it tough for teams to come into this building and play. That’s a big advantage when you can have that kind of record at home.”
