That’s a Great Pair of Kostitsyns you Got There…

From yesterday “I am sure David Poile will do something to improve the roster before the deadline (he has mentioned on several outlets that he is willing to part with 1st rd pick & prospects), but it is impossible to predict!”

My suggestions about Dustin Brown were more of a fantasy, but my vague prediction certainly came true! The Nashville Predators were one of the busiest teams on Trade deadline day, acquiring LW Andrei Kostitsyn from The Montreal Canadiens for a 2013 2nd round draft pick + the conditional 2013 5th rounder that was part of the Hal Gill trade last week & C Paul Gaustad + a 2012 4th round draft pick from The Buffalo Sabres for a 2012 1st round pick.

Gaustad is an upgrade over Jerred Smithson at the 3rd/4th line Center position & will add some serious size/grit up the middle. He is also considered a faceoff specialist (10th in NHL in FO winning %). AK46 has underperformed greatly this season in Montreal & a change of scenery seemed necessary for the older brother of SK74. He can shoot & score when properly motivated, which will help bolster the entire offense going into the playoffs.

Is there a risk bringing in these players? Of course, but when you push the pile of chips to all in you are always taking a risk. These are two rentals for the playoff run fighting to save their hockey lives (both UFA’s after season) & that could be the perfect type of desperation to add to an already good hockey team. Both players are expected to meet the team in Carolina today, but there is no word as of now if either will be in the lineup.
