Who Gets Dirty Now?
Preds F Patric Hornqvist has returned to Nashville to be evaluated for a leg injury suffered during a stretch where he was hit in the upper thigh by a Shea Weber shot from the point, then had an awkward collision along the boards with Ducks F Ryan Getzlaf on Saturday night in Anaheim.
Both incidents sent the gritty forward to the bench in obvious pain and honestly, it was surprising to see him return at all. Through 5 games this season, Hornqvist has clearly been one of the best offensive threats for the Preds & without him on the 2nd line & PP, who will fill his role?
The Preds have an assortment of options to choose from, but nobody brings quite the same enthusiasm or skill set for standing on top of the crease taking a beating to create scoring opportunities. It will be interesting to see what happens over the duration of the current road trip as a stop gap measure until we get the full extent of the injury news. Philadelphia suffered an injury to Scott Hartnell last week, who fills the same role for the Flyers, & went out & signed veteran F Mike Knuble. Is this even an option for GM David Poile & if so who is left available?
Lots of questions hang on the result of this injury news, but one thing is for sure: The Preds already have a hard enough time scoring goals without losing the one player who consistently goes to the net.
